Massage isn’t just about feeling good. It’s about feeling better.

Got chronic pain? Maybe you’ve been to doctor after doctor, every specialist under the sun, and no one can solve your problem. They just keep giving you pills. Or, perhaps, they refuse to give you pills, because they’re starting to understand the risks of painkillers. Maybe they want to do surgery, or maybe they already did, and you’re still hurting.

Many times, these chronic pain issues result from muscular pain, which can often mimic more serious medical conditions.

I specialize in chronic pain, whether it’s from injury, overuse, or some other cause. Let’s talk! In conjunction with your relevant health care providers, I’ll work with you to help you address the muscular issues you’re facing.

Not a Spa Massage

Athelas Therapy is a different kind of massage.

Trained in Neuro-Muscular Therapy, I focus my work on your areas of complaint. This is not a spa massage. This is a “take your life back from chronic pain” massage.

Neuromuscular Therapy is a medically based approach to soft tissue pain and dysfunction. NMT seeks to address not just the pain, but also underlying causes.

Trigger Points in muscles tend to follow particular patterns. As the Chinese found with Acupressure points, specific Trigger Points tend to create fairly predictable pain patterns and other sensations. These patterns are not always felt where the actual problem is, and they frequently mimic medical conditions.  Sometimes, this can lead to patients getting treated for a health issue they don’t have, and the problem is still there. Or, the doctors might say there’s nothing wrong. Either way, the person suffering the symptoms of the trigger point is left with increased frustration.

The bodywork can be done with the client clothed, or with the client disrobed and draped.

I specialize in Neuro-Muscular Therapy, but my massage training covered quite a few types of massage, including Swedish, Deep Tissue, and other common varieties.

I design each massage around the needs and preferences of the client, so any given massage may have features of several different modalities.

In addition, I am also trained in Level 1 Burn Scar Therapy, Cupping, and Massage for Fibromyalgia.

I have experience working with Fibromyalgia, TMJ Dysfunction, SI Joint Dysfunction, shoulder pain, Plantar Fasciitis, headache relief, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, and much more!

If chronic pain from work, injury old or new, or simply “getting old” is affecting your life, try Athelas. In some cases, the first visit may not include a massage, depending on the medical history and the presence and severity of injury. If this history and my assessment determine that you will be better served seeking medical attention, I will inform you immediately. If massage is right for you, then we will create a treatment plan to fit your goals, schedule, and resources.

Choosing Athelas means choosing an honest and trustworthy advocate for your health.
