"I will be a healer, and love all things that grow and are not barren."
--Lady Eowyn, Shieldmaiden of Rohan (JRR Tolkien, The Return of the King)
Christina has always been interested in two things- how things work and making things better. When she was about seven, Christina wanted to be MacGyver, and she wanted to go with her best friend to the friend's dad's village in Sudan to set up a clinic. The friend was to be a doctor, and Christina was to be a pharmacist.
That village is gone, MacGyver has been Mythbusted, Christina's love for chemistry got stymied by math, and she is, after all, no longer seven. So now she wants to be a healer, like Lady Eowyn.
Christina holds a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from California State University, Fullerton. She has been a librarian, barista, and teacher, and she has held desk jobs at a flight school and a series of non-profits. She is a habitual volunteer, spending a summer teaching English in China and four summers on brief projects in Russia. She is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, having served in Youth Development in a rural village in the Philippines from 2012-2014. To avoid reverse culture shock, she lived in a monastery for a month upon her return from the Philppines.
Though she has been playing with massage since 1997, and she decided to go to massage school in 2009, Christina only found the right school for her in 2015. She began the twelve month (900 hour) core program at National Holistic Institute in Santa Ana in October 2015, received her certification in August 2016, and completed the 450 hour advanced Neuromuscular Therapy program in June 2017. In addition to private practice, Christina has worked at massage clinics in Orange and Riverside Counties. She is also a Teaching Assistant for NHI and a volunteer for the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards.
